Mixed Media Halloween Card

 Happy Halloween!

I'm excited to share a mixed media Halloween card today that features some very old and very new Hero Arts products.

The card begins with a die cut panel of watercolor paper that was sprayed with Hero Arts sprays in Royal Purple + Gold and Bright Yellow + Copper. Once dried, I placed the spider web stencil on top and sprayed again with Black + Shimmer spray. In between each layer, I dried completely with my Ranger Heat Tool.

On another scrap of watercolor paper, I spread a fine layer of Hero Arts Black Wax and let dry completely. When dry, I die cut the Hero Art Haunted House die (very old die, no longer sold).

I also spread a layer of Hero Arts Glitter Paste over a scrap of paper. I then sprayed this with the Black + Shimmer spray to dirty it up a bit. Once dried, I die cut the ghosts and also the sentiment letters.

The little bats are die cut from another watercolor paper scrap that was sprayed with Black + Shimmer spray.

The grassy border was die cut and also sprayed to match the rest of the card. I did a very light spray (from a very far distance) of Orange + Shimmer and then Black + Shimmer.

Then it's just time to glue!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a very fun and safe Halloween!

Holiday Houses Turned Spooky

Happy Halloween Week! I have actually been working on winter holiday cards, especially creating a lot of wintery houses from the Concord & 9th Over the Rooftop Dies (check out my instagram for some cards). After creating about 15 Christmas/Winter themed houses, I decided to switch things up and make Halloween houses! I'm pretty happy with the outcome...

The houses are die cut using Concord & 9th Assorted Color Cardstock collection. I added fine glitter to some of the details for an extra pop.

To create a Halloween-themed sky, I used a mini spider web stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. First I laid down a layer of Hickory Smoke Distress Ink, then with the stencil on top, I went over it again with Seedless Preserves ink.

The little houses needed some lighting, so I cut small rectangles to glue behind the homes.

The little ghosts and bats were die cut from an old Hero Arts die called Fancy Layering Die Haunted House. My good friend Angela gifted it to me 3 or 4 years ago, and I use the die every Halloween.

The sentiment is die cut from Lawn Fawn Henry's ABCs.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a fun Halloween week!

Halloween Wreaths

Decorative wreaths aren't just for winter holidays! I was super inspired by a card Yana Smakula shared where she used winter/Christmas products to make a spooky Halloween wreath. I had to create one myself immediately!

These cards use a lot of older products that may not still be available (I'll share similar options) but that's kind of the point... mix and match whatever winter wreath items you have on hand with your Halloween products.

Of course I had to use my favorite wreath die from the Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Kit from November 2022. You should vote right now to bring it back! (I made dozens and dozens of holiday cards with this kit last year). To make it spooky, I used black and glittery orange cardstock, accented with some light pink berries colored with Copics

The main stamp is this gorgeous Color Layering Moth stamp from Hero Arts. An online search will show a few shops still carry it... an alternative could be this layered butterfly. The moth is stamped with Hero Arts inks in Tangerine, Caramel, and Peach. And how cute are those little ghosts?! These are actually from Graveyard Icons Mini Tub - a wood block tub that I purchased a long time ago for my classroom. I really wanted a simple simple sentiment, so I opted for Happy Halloween from Lawn Fawn's Booyah set. All images were stamped with Hero Arts Intensified Black Ink.

I made two more simpler versions without the moth. I used little skulls and mini pumpkins, also from the wood block tub set.

Happy Halloween!
