Welcome to day 3 of our 5 for 5 Christmas Blog Event! Today our theme is ONE LAYER! Each day our 5 designers will share a Christmas inspired project using that days' theme. Some of us are offering prizes (like me!) so be sure to comment on each blog for a chance to win! All the links are listed at the bottom of this post.
So today is all about making a ONE LAYER card or project. I used to be pretty good at these, but since I got really into mixed media I don't think I've made a single -- single layer anything! So this card took about 3 hours, if I'm being completely honest (I am).
So I started out by created a few masks out of thin paper with this Dina Wakley "Scribbly Holiday Birdies" stamp set.
Since I don't have large post-it type paper for the masks, I reached for my MISTI tool and used those strong magnets as a way to hold the mask down in place. I stamped the bird first, placed the bird mask on top, then stamped the santa hat and the holly berries. I also laid a mask on top of the hollies where I wanted to layer those.
Here's my finished stamped image... and then I went to work. I thought about how horrible it looked allll day. I really did. 8 hours thinking "how the hell am I gonna make this look good?!" Well... thank you to the inventors of Peerless Watercolors...
Watercolor watercolor watercolor. I'm a little shocked by the finished product, if I'm being completely honest (I am). I should have never doubted Dina's Scribbly Birdies!
I embossed the sentiment in gold and just added a thin layer of Christmas Red Stickles to the berries. I think I'll be able to sleep tonight :)
Now it's time for PRIZES! I have a great prize rounded up this time. It includes a ton of Grumbacher art supplies, colored pencils, Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Pastels, plus two NEW Lawn Fawn stamps! All you have to do is leave a comment each day to enter!
Now it's time to visit the other designers! Have fun!
oh love love love! I have that stamp set--must use it soon! thanks for an inspiring card and ideas!
ReplyDeleteLove this stamp... just won it recently haven't used it yet! Love your watercolor work...thanks for mask idea !
ReplyDeleteI, along with you, almost never make a one layer card and it's one of the toughest for me to design. I got such a laugh out of your musings and description of your process but the end result is just fabulous. The watercolors were the perfect medium for this scribbly bird and how clever to use the Misti to help mask.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love that sweet birdie ♥
ReplyDeleteSuch an adorable birdie!! One-layer cards are so hard for me because there's no room for error!! This turned out so cute and pretty.
