MMMC #20 - Time Flies

Happy New Year!!! Please allow The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge to be the first to wish you a healthy and prosperous 2016 :)

Now we have our first challenge of the year: TIME FLIES

I created a canvas board using a variety of objects that reminded me of time, clocks, wings, and birds.

I started by going through my stash and just pulling out anything that resembled the TIME FLIES theme. Chipboard, grunge board, stencils, metal charms, stamps... anything.

Background texture always comes first for me. I started with some modeling paste and a large stencil that has a lot of open space: Repeating Pods from The Crafter's Workshop. Once that dried I added my clock stencil from The Crafter's Workshop called Time Travel. Finally I adhered down pieces of dry wall tape (the punchanella look).

Now I grabbed all my chipboard cut outs and started layering and gluing them onto the canvas. I was sure to use a very thick medium (Faber Castell Gel Medium) for adhering these bulky pieces

Once everything is dried it's time to coat the ENTIRE thing in gesso! I used two layers of gesso and let each layer dry completely.

Then I go crazy with my spray inks! I asked Matt to name me 3 colors, and that is the combo that I used: green, gold (yellow), and orange. I never would have picked that for myself so that's what I love about it... stepping out of my comfort zone! I used spray inks by Dylusions in Fresh Lime, Squeezed Orange, and Lemon Zest.

I colored a bird stamp from Unity Stamp Co and confetti cut a stamped quote, also from Unity.

I am not who I was yesterday

I sure hope you enjoyed my Time Flies canvas. You have the entire month of January to create your own mixed media project and link it up to the MMMC gallery. We also have a super special guest designer this month, Cheryl Boglioli! She has put together this fabulous prize pack for our lucky random entry :)

Merry Christmas Cards

I wish you a very merry Christmas Eve and of course a merry Christmas tomorrow!

I'm popping in really quickly to share three cards I created for the teachers I work with at school. I used all Lawn Fawn images that I had colored and fussy cut a few days before.

Here's the picture I shared on Instagram the other day... I went a little Copic color crazy with all of these adorable Lawn Fawn winter stamps!

I paired each card with some papers from Lawn Fawn - Let's Bokeh in the Snow paper pad. I also heat embossed each sentiment.

These cards use Lawn Fawn stamp sets "Toboggan Together", "Baaah Humbug", and "Merry Christmouse".

Happy Purrthday + WINNER

Congratulations, everyone... you made it through Monday! Woohoo!!
To celebrate, I have a super bright and adorable birthday card to share... oh ya plus a winner from the 5 for 5 Christmas hop.

I made this birthday card for my future sister in law! I used the darling "Cat-itude" stamp set from My Favorite Things. First I stamped and heat embossed the small fishies and flowers on the watercolor background. Then I painted over it with Distress inks. I also stamped and watercolored the cats and the fish bowl.

The stitched frame is a My Favorite Things die. I layered the fun sentiment across and used that as a place for the kitties to sit :)

AND THE WINNER ISSSSSSSS

I used random number generator to select the winner. First the random blog post picked was day 1, then it selected comment numero cinco (5) as the winner!

Congrats Rea! Please email your shipping address to rwkrafts(at)gmail(dot)com to claim your prize!!

Day 5 - Tree

Welcome to day 5 of our 5 for 5 Christmas Blog Event! Today our theme is TREE! Each day our 5 designers will share a Christmas inspired project using that days' theme. Some of us are offering prizes (like me!) so be sure to comment on each blog for a chance to win! All the links are listed at the bottom of this post.

I had fun creating this watercolory Christmas tree card. The Christmas Tree of Hope, Joy, Love stamp by Unity is so detailed and beautiful, the card doesn't need much else. I colored the stamp using a little technique I showcase in my video below, called "controlled color bleeding".

The ink colors I used for the stamp are Distress Inks in Crushed Olive, Lucky Clover, and Mowed Lawn. Then I dragged out the ink with a water brush for my 'controlled color bleed'. Then I restamped the image to emboss it in a glittery black embossing powder.

Now it's time for PRIZES! I have a great prize rounded up this time. It includes a ton of Grumbacher art supplies, colored pencils, Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Pastels, plus two NEW Lawn Fawn stamps! All you have to do is leave a comment each day to enter!
*I will announce a winner the evening of December 13th!*

Now it's time to visit the other designers! Have fun!
