Summer Days to me means beaches, the ocean, and sunsets. I had been wanting to do a big abstract landscape for quite a while, so this was the time! I got started in my art journal... the scene took on many different forms and took about 5 days to 'finish' it until I was finally happy.
This page has so many different layers of STUFF that the binding of my journal is pretty warped. It just looks very well loved :)
I started by gesso-ing the entire spread. Then I used a LOT of matte medium to add the layer of punchinella, so you can imagine that took a lot of time to dry. Then I added some Liquitex White Flakes for even more texture and painted it with blue and white acrylic paint.
I added Liquitex Modeling Paste through The Crafter's Workshop "Chlorophyll" across the entire bottom. Once that dried I colored them with blue Gelatos.
I also added a variety of patterns from TCW "Impressions" with acrylic paint. For the 'sand' of my beach I globbed on a lot of Liquitex String Gel, then poured in a lot of Pollen Microbeads, Mica Flakes, and glitter. Annnnd let dry. This was day 3 of the journal process.
I ended up putting very watery acrylic paint at the bottom of the page (I started with darker blues on the bottom and lighter on top: Dina Wakley Lapis, Turquoise, and Sky). Then I turned the journal upside down and heavily sprayed the journal with water. This helps the colors blend and bleed to get an ombre appearance in the ocean.
Compared to the ocean, the sky is fairly simple. I used Liquitex Modeling Paste through a TCW "Believe Script" stencil. Once it dried I created a sunset with watered down paints the same way I did the ocean. I mixed a lot more colors to get the sunset how I wanted: Dina Wakley Blackberry, Violet, Ruby, and Tangerine. This was day 4 of the journal.
I finished the page with a heavy spray of Perfect Pearls mist in "Biscotti" to give it a wonderful shimmer. Finally I added the quote. I die cut the letters out of vintage Dictionary paper and adhered them with Deco Art Matte Medium. Finally it was finished on Day 5!
